Araki Shin Ryu And Soke 77 Yrs World Taikai 2024 was held in Narita city, Japan from October 19th to 23rd, 2024. On this special occasion, Tanemura Soke gave our members the chance to learn Araki Shin Ryu Jujutsu. Soke was teaching Araki Shin Ryu Jujutsu as a Ryuha for the first time. About 150 members attended the event from all over the world.

Soke’s performance was impeccable and to the admiration of all present, considering that Soke turned 77 years old. Soke emphasized that the techniques of this style, which he received from Sato Kinbei Sensei, are excellent techniques for self-defense, any kind of defense. As in Amatsu Tatara’s lecture where Soke talked about his views on life and death based on his own experiences, the same is the spirit of Araki Shin Ryu.

After the review of all patterns with the guidance of Soke, all participants had a chance to check their
test for Kirigami or Shoden. Everybody performed with high spirit and strong techniques. It is important
to note that many members advanced in their Dan titles and, most importantly, that Genbukan has
new members in master titles. New Renshi masters are: Yousouf Mamode Ally (Mauritius Youkou Dojo),
Colm Fitzsimons (Ireland Nitten Dojo), and Pieter Thijs (Belgium Tetsukabuto Dojo). New Kyoshi
masters are: Sean Muncaster (Canada Akakage Dojo), Zeb Glover (UK Myojo Dojo), and Filip Poffe
(Belgium Chiryaku Dojo), Henry Steinberg (Costa Rica Bushikai Dojo). New Shihan masters are: Guy
Aerts (Belgium Takao Dojo), Marc Coppens (Belgium Tenzan Dojo), and Hugo Escamilla (Mexico
Daisuke Dojo). In addition, the new Shihan before the Taikai were Michael Coleman (USA Futen Dojo),

On the last day, we went sightseeing to Katori Jingu Shrine and later went on a free walk through the streets of Sawara, where the atmosphere of the Edo period remains. After gathering at Yasaka Shrine, we went back to prepare for the banquet.

At the banquet, Tanemura Soke was congratulated by everyone on his Kiju 77th birthday. It was a true
celebration of Soke’s life and accomplishments, with praising orations from Okayasu Hanshi and
Kohtaroh Hanshi. As a special present, Tanemura Soke gave a special edition of his new book
“Takamatsu’s True Martial Arts Legacy” to all attendees. The energy and happy celebration arose even
more as the Kodo band Choshi Hane Daiko entered the stage. With an utmost impressive performance
of throwing while playing, even the participants could play drums with them. Afterwards there was a
performance of Irish and Japanese dance, and everyone joined in dancing on stage. We are so happy
to have such a Sensei and could follow his life and deeds. We look forward to Soke’s longevity and
many more celebrations and true training.
